Overview
Why study in Lithuania?
Lithuania has the largest English-taught catalogue in the Baltics - 591 English-taught programmes across 30 institutions - in a eurozone country where overall prices sit about 22% below the EU average. Tertiary graduates aged 20-34 reach 93.2% employment one to three years after finishing, against an EU average of 87.0%. Work rights are the strongest of our European destinations: 20 hours a week in the first two bachelor years, 40 hours a week from year three, full-time for master's and doctoral students, and a 12-month permit after graduation to find work or start a business. Study is spread across three genuinely different cities - Vilnius, Kaunas and the milder seaport of Klaipeda - with tuition at our partner universities running from EUR 500 to EUR 15,000 a year and a median of EUR 4,437. Air quality in all three cities sits at or barely above the WHO annual guideline, which very few study destinations can say.

You must evidence living funds for all 12 months at once, currently EUR 576.50 a month, plus EUR 1,153 for return travel: about EUR 8,071 shown as a single lump sum.

That monthly figure is set at half the national minimum monthly wage, so it is revised each January - confirm the current amount before you apply. The state fee is EUR 80 at standard speed or EUR 320 urgent, processing takes up to two months (one month urgent), health insurance cover of EUR 10,000 is required, and you must declare your address with a rental agreement or dormitory confirmation.

While you study
Work while studying
Earn, gain experience and build your future.
- During your degree you may work up to 20 hours a week in the first two bachelor years and up to 40 hours a week from year three; master's and doctoral students may work full-time.
- No separate work permit is needed, and hours worked during holidays or a required practice placement do not count towards the 20-hour cap.
More on working here
- After graduating you may apply for a 12-month residence permit to look for work or become self-employed, and you may start work as soon as you find a job - that permit asks you to evidence at least EUR 1,153 a month.
- The work rules were broadened recently, so check the current limits at the time you apply.
