Georgia has been in the Bologna Process since 2005 and uses its three-cycle structure (bachelor's, master's, doctorate) with ECTS credits.
Overview
Why study in Georgia?
Georgia has been in the Bologna Process since 2005 and uses its three-cycle structure (bachelor's, master's, doctorate) with ECTS credits. Medical Doctor (MD) programmes are one-cycle: 6 years and 360 ECTS, with clinical clerkships in the 5th and 6th years. The National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement is the national quality-assurance agency, and a study residence permit is issued for study at an authorised institution. The official language is Georgian, so check each programme's teaching language; some universities have English-taught faculties. At the start of 2025-26, 44,440 of the 195,426 students at Georgian higher-education institutions were foreign; 87.8% of these were on health and welfare programmes. Tbilisi averages -1.8 to 6.2 °C in January and 18.6 to 29.5 °C in July, with about 658 mm of rain a year (Batumi: about 2,450 mm). For Indian applicants: NMC's Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations 2021 require an English-medium course of at least 54 months plus at least 12 months' internship, all in the same foreign institution; NMC decides each case.
