Today, surgeons use laser-guided surgical devices and implant artificial organs while other specialists fit the latest smart prosthetics – technologies that are developed by biomedical engineers. At Waterloo, you'll learn to advance biomedical research using data science and machine learning, develop assistive devices to optimize recovery and prevent injuries, and enhance imaging technology to better diagnose and monitor medical conditions. With a focus on experiential learning, hands-on labs and workshops build advanced skills in modelling, prototyping, and testing biomedical systems. Then get even more practical experience through two years of paid co-op, plus a fourth-year capstone design project. You’ll take courses in chemistry, physics, calculus, linear algebra, and programming—building a foundation in human systems, data analysis, and core engineering skills.

Is it accredited?
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.): Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB), the accreditation board of Engineers Canada. The CEAB accredits UNDERGRADUATE (bachelor) engineering programmes only — in Engineers Canada's own words, “Individuals, courses, and institutions are not accredited”. There is therefore no such thing as an accredited master's or PhD in engineering in Canada: a taught MEng or MASc at any of these 26 universities carries no CEAB accreditation of its own, however good the…
