Mathematicians contribute to the formulation and solution of problems in diverse fields such as medicine, economics, computer science and engineering. Studying mathematics will teach you how to think critically and use logic to solve a surprisingly wide variety of problems in fields such as the physical sciences, economics, biology and many others. You will learn to reason about numbers, shapes, and relations. Using these ideas you will model features of the world with the aid of tools such as differential equations, networks, algebraic structures and much more. Double Honours Programs may be taken in combinations of two subjects. In this program at least 36 credit units will normally be taken in each subject. For further details, please see the Academic Information and Policies section. Students who wish to complete a Double Honours in Mathematics and Statistics must follow the requirements for that specific combination of disciplines, listed separately on this page. Of the requirements listed in Major 2, some courses (usually 6 credit units) may be used to fulfill Requirements 1 to 3 of Major 1. If this happens, the result will be that the number of Open Electives in Requirement 5 will be increased accordingly to continue to require a total of 120 credit units for the Double Honours degree. The major average for Mathematics as Major 2 will be calculated using the grades earned in all MATH and all STAT courses approved for use in a Mathematics major. Students must complete at least two-thirds of the Major 2 program requirements (to the nearest highest multiple of 3 credit units) from the University of Saskatchewan to meet the mandatory residency requirement. Students who are admitted to a Double Honours program (Mathematics and another subject) must be advised in both departments. Students will fulfill the Mathematics portion of the program as follows:
