From there, you’ll develop and defend a formal research proposal, culminating in a doctoral dissertation that contributes new knowledge to your field. From your very first term, you’re encouraged to explore and refine your research interests. Scholarly growth is a defining feature of the program, with strong emphasis on presenting at conferences and publishing alongside faculty members and fellow doctoral students. This collaborative, research-intensive environment prepares you to become a confident, independent scholar. The PhD program is offered on a full-time basis and begins each September. Students are required to study full-time for at least the first two years, and maintaining full-time status is essential to remain eligible for funding.
