You will study performance, composition, music theory, history and literature, and both elementary and secondary music education. You will receive weekly private lessons and ensemble experience every year. You'll engage in significant student-teaching experiences throughout your degree and an extensive internship in the second year of your Bachelor of Education-Sequential Music program. Once you are finished your Bachelor of Music - Music Education degree in the College of Arts and Science, you will be accepted automatically into the College of Education so that you can complete a Bachelor of Education - Sequential Music degree in two years. This allows you to finish two degrees in six years. Students interested in entering an Honours program should consult advisors in the department/school concerned before registering for their second year. Of the 120 credit units required for the B.Mus. Honours degree, at least 66 credit units must be at the senior level. Application for admission to Honours is not considered until successful completion of at least 60 credit units with a Cumulative Weighted Average of at least 70% overall and at least 70% in the subject of Honours. For further details, please see the Academic Information and Policies section. Program requirements for the Four-year and Honours Music Education programs are identical; however, the academic standard for students to earn the Honours credential is a minimum cumulative weighted average (C.W.A.) of 70% overall, and in the subject (all combined MUS (academic music), EMUS (music education), and MUAP (applied music) courses), per the College standard for Honours programs. Students who complete the program requirements but fail to achieve the required overall and subject averages can default to, and graduate with, the Four-year degree (with an overall C.W.A. or 60% and a subject C.W.A. of 62.5%).
