The Physical Chemistry specialisation aims to unravel the properties of molecules and materials in great detail by developing theory and physical instrumentation for advanced spectroscopic experiments. Topics include self-organisation of complex molecular systems, structure-function relationships of nanostructured materials, and fundamental molecular interactions. The programme is a specialisation within the Molecular Sciences Master's and is embedded in the Institute for Molecules and Materials (IMM), giving access to unique research facilities. About half of graduates start a PhD; others go on to companies such as ASML, Shell, DSM and Unilever.
